You need to make $17.56 to afford a 1br apartment in King County
According to the Washington Post's Wonkblog, $17.56 per hour is how much you need to make in order to afford a one bedroom apartment here in King County. While this may be true for most of the county (ie: Carnation or Covington), it is most certainly not the case in King County's large metro areas. Right now, moderate studio apartments are renting at $1100. This means that in order to keep your rent at or less than 30% of your over all income you would need to make $43,800 per year or $21 per hour. One bedrooms are going for $1500 which means you'll need to make almost $29 per hour. I do like this map. It looks like it's based on solid research. It does not make me feel comfortable with our current rental market or where things are going. What are your thoughts? Leave me a comment or sent me an email.
